Purchasing a computer

Currently, you can get a computers from as low as $399 to over $2000. This obviously means that there are many choices you can go with. The system I am recommending here is for the average home user who will be using it to surf the web, check email, and maybe play a few games. If you have a specific need, your ideal computer obviously will change. Feel free to contact me with questions on your situation.

For Home computers, I have always recommended Dell computers. The two main reasons I have for this are the "online only purchasing" and the support they offer.

Dell's Online Only Purchasing

One of the great things about Dell is the fact that they are an online only seller. This means that unlike HP, Compaq, Toshiba, etc. you don't have to shop around at multiple stores to find the best deal on the same computer. Dell doesn't sell its computers at Best Buy or CompUSA, they sell them themselves, online. Cutting out the middleman obviously cuts down costs. It also means that all your support will be through Dell. If you purchase at a store, you are usually stuck on support, or you end up with minimal support from the manufacturer. With Dell, you exactly who to call for support.

Dell's Support

Dell, as they say in their TV commercials, has amazing award winning support. As with any company, i'm sure horror stories may exist, but I have heard so many people's great experience with Dell that I know they are doing a great job.

Whenever you purchase a Dell, make sure you get 3 or 4 years of warranty. THIS IS IMPORTANT. No matter where you get the computer, there is always the chance that something random may crash, leaving you with nothing. This crash usually happens somewhere in the 3rd or 4th year. If your computer is still under warranty with Dell, you either ship it back on their dime or have someone come out to you (if you get the "at home" service). If they cant fix it, and you are still in the warranty, they will send you a new computer. If your model is no longer in production, you get a newer model!

How to Buy

As a home user, you are looking for the absolute cheapest system. "But I don't want a slow computer" you say. The reason you are looking for the cheapest computer is that the cheapest computer you can currently buy, if configured correctly and properly kept clean using the techniques on this site, will be much faster than what you need.

First, you should click Here to get to the Dell Home page. From that link, click "Home and Home Office". Now click on the link below that matches your situation:
