Set Microsoft Automatic Updates to run

Page Goals
  • Configure Microsoft Automatic Updates to install daily

Now that you have run Microsoft Update, you need to make sure you will be protected in the future. Microsoft is constantly releasing patches for Windows and its other programs (generally the 2nd tuesday of the month a lot come out), and if you have your computer set to automatically download and install them, you will be much more protected against viruses in the future.

Setting the updates to install daily

To set your computer to run Microsoft Automatic Updates, go to the System Properties (right click "my computer" and click proprieties). Click the "Automatic Updates" tab, then select the "Automatic (Recommended)" option. Select "Every Day", and then pick a time your computer is usually on. If you leave it on over night, set it to something like 3am.

Note that Automatic Updates will only download and install the critical windows updates, so you should still go to windowsupdate.com every so often and check if any non critical or hardware updates need to be installed.
